Identity Documentation
The first step to a new life in Spain is to obtain your NIE number (Numero de identificación de extranjeros). This number identifies you to the Spanish tax authorities and is required when purchasing a property or a car for instance. Having an NIE number also simplifies the process of opening a bank account. We can assist in the completion of the paperwork and accompany you to the authorities to have it processed. This number is usually available within a week.
Unless you are an EU citizen legally employed in Spain, an enrolled student from an EU Member state or a pensioner enrolled in the Spanish Social Security system you are required to a obtain a residence permit once you have spent 183 days in Spain in any calendar year. Whether you take out a residence permit or not you are classed as a resident for tax purposes from 184 days. We can assist in the completion of the paperwork necessary and accompany you to apply if required.
